THE DRAGON GUARDIAN CHAPTER-6
Day after day, Ryan returned to the same hilltop, his determination unwavering, but Gabu's capabilities remained frustratingly consistent.
On the second day, Ryan arrived with a makeshift training plan. "Today, we're going to master basic dragon skills!" he declared confidently.
Gabu bounced excitedly. "Ooh, skills! Like what?"
"Flying!" Ryan pointed to the sky. "All dragons can fly!"
Gabu flapped his stubby wings. Instead of soaring majestically, he managed a pathetic hover of two inches before tumbling forward, rolling down the hill in a comical somersault. "Wheeeee!" he shouted, completely oblivious to Ryan's mounting frustration.
The third day focused on elemental attacks. "Breathe fire!" Ryan commanded.
Gabu concentrated, his tiny face scrunching up. What emerged was not a fearsome flame, but a warm puff of cinnamon-scented air that gently ruffled a nearby flower's petals.
"A fireball, Gabu! A FIREBALL!" Ryan pleaded.
"Oopsie," Gabu said, looking genuinely sorry. "I can make it smell like vanilla next time?"
Day four brought target practice. Ryan set up rocks at various distances. "Hit the target!" he instructed.
Gabu's "attack" resulted in a single, lonely bubble that drifted lazily, popping harmlessly inches from the first rock. The bubble left behind a faint strawberry scent.
Day five saw Ryan attempting martial arts training. "Watch and learn!" he demonstrated a complex fighting stance.
Gabu tried to mimic him but ended up doing an unintentional pirouette, spinning until he was dizzy and collapsed in a giggling heap. "SUPER SPARKLY TWIRL ATTACK!" he proclaimed proudly.
With each passing day, Ryan's hope diminished. His initial determination slowly gave way to frustration, then despair.
On the final day, after weeks of unsuccessful training, Ryan collapsed onto the grass, utterly defeated. Gabu waddled over, concerned.
Tears of pure frustration welled in his eyes. The weight of constant failure pressed down on him like a physical force. All around him, he could imagine the other students with their powerful, magnificent dragons. And here he was, with Gabu—a dragon that was more comedy than combat.
"I've failed," Ryan whispered, falling back onto the grass. "Completely and totally failed."
Gabu looked at his warrior, his round body trembling slightly. For once, he was silent, sensing the depth of Ryan's despair.
The hilltop, once a place of hope and determination, now felt like a testament to their impossible dream.
